FATIGUE BEHAVIOUR OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES: INFLUENCE OF THE BINDER

LE COMPORTEMENT EN FATIGUE DES ENROBES BITUMINEUX: INFLUENCE DU LIANT

Alternate shear fatigue tests were carried out on samples of bituminous mixtures used in pavement construction. The samples contained the same binders, temperature and stress being the variable parameters. The types of bitumen were fairly representative of the range of bitumens used in France in road construction. The bitumen varied in its consistency (80/100 or 40/50) and sensitivity to temperature (penetration index between -1,5 and +2. All types were of commercial manufacture, had been refined according to different techniques and came from different types of crude oil. The binders were tested pure with an alternate shearing device and were 200 micron thick. They were also used in the preparation of bituminous mixture samples which were subjected to alternate flexural tests. /TRRL/
