A DRILLING FOR SITE INVESTIGATIONS IN ROAD PLANNING

BORRIGG OG METODER FOR VEGTRACEUNDERSOEKELSER

The Norwegian Road Research Laboratory, the road authorities of Telemark county and the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute have been working on the development and testing of a drilling rig and drilling equipment for soil investigations since 1973. The main requirements were terrain mobility and minimum damage to cultivated land. The drilling rig is therefore lightweight and mounted on a small belt-tractor. Methods and equipment for sampling of existing road bases were developed and work satisfactorily. Soundings, samplings and vane borings were carried out but further development is necessary. /TRRL/
