ALL-POLYURETHANE BUMPER DEBUTS
Reaction injection molded polyurethane bumpers arrive with the 1978 Volkswagens. Advantages include 15% weight savings over steel bumpers equipped with hydraulic shock absorbers. Temperature tests confirmed that polyurethane bumpers can be used as energy-absorbing elements for a 5 mph barrier impact.
