JR KYUSHU TUNNEL INSPECTIONS AND JR GROUP COUNTERMEASURES FOR FIRES AND EARTHQUAKES
Tunnel management is classified into two areas: tunnel maintenance, and countermeasures against emergencies such as earthquakes and fires. JR Kyushu recently revised their tunnel inspection guidelines to improve tunnel management. In response to past earthquake and fire disasters, as well as the more recent fallout accidents from lining erosion in tunnels, these countermeasures are consistently upgraded throughout the JR Group using high-tech equipment and systems. Ceaseless efforts are made to prevent tunnel accidents and provide reliable first-aid support when accidents do occur, allowing passengers to enjoy safe train travel.
