MEASURING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION: INSTRUMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR ASSESSING HARMFUL MATTER IN THE AIR

As an independently-acting body within the meaning of Art, 52 of the Federal Anti-Emission Act, the German Federal Railway must monitor its own compliance with the provisions of the Act. The Research and Test Establishment in Minden performs the measurements, which in private industry generally are the responsibility of the Technical Inspection Associations and equivalent bodies, and provides the measuring equipment necessary. The measuring circuits have to satisfy special requirements, and regular calibration of the equipment by means of built-in emission recorders is also provided for in the regulations.
