X MAN : CESAR VERGARA IS THE MAN BEHIND THE GENESIS AND NOW HE'S TAKING HIS IDEAS WORLDWIDE

This article features Cesar Vergara, America's only train designer who works for New Jersey transit. Vergara argues that design is missing in the debate over the future of U.S. rail transportation. Among his earlier work is the design of the next-generation TGVs for France. His Genesis model was hailed as groundbreaking by some and criticized as boxy by others. Other models he has designed have used fins. Vergara argues that the design of trains' interiors as well as their logos and graphic decorations are crucial in drawing new riders.
