SUCCESSFUL 400 DEGREES C TEST OF NEW ELECTRIC MOTORS

The revision of the Austrian guide line RVS 9.261, in light of the recent fires in the Mont Blanc, Tauern and Gotthard tunnels, calls now for a heat resistance of exhaust ventilators of 400 degrees C for an operating time of 60 minutes. This requirement is not a problem for the mechanical parts of the exhaust ventilator, but might be problematic for powerful electric motors. In this paper a detailed experiment is presented where the new 450 kW electric motors for the exhaust ventilation of the Plabutsch Tunnel, Austria, are tested against the above mentioned criterion. The new electric motor passed the test successfully and thus, fulfills the new requirements imposed by the revised guideline RVS 9.261. (A)
