PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION IN SWEDEN
LES SPECIFICATIONS PERFORMANCIELLES SUEDOISES
The article argues that the use of mechanical properties in the specification of mixes will help in establishing a relationship between mix design and pavement design and in turn linking specifications to performance. The principle Swedish specification concerning performance or function is to define requirements in respect to asphalt layer or surface characteristics. The Swedish specification concerning functional requirements consists of three levels; the choice of the level depends on the agreement between client and contractor. The limits of the functional or performance parameters are usually in correlation with the design traffic. The specifications can be classified as a combination of performance and performance based specification according to the above definition.
