GEOLOGICAL METHODS FOR FORECASTING THE EXTENT OF WATER INFILTRATION INTO A TUNNEL
METODI GEOLOGICI PER LA PREVISIONE DELL'ENTITA DELLE VENTUE D'ACQUA IN GALLERIA
A study of water flow in rock formations is applied to forecasting water infiltration into deep tunnels. A model of the fracture network in a rock mass is derived from a geological survey of the area. This model is used to calculate the penetration and volume of water movement through the rock, based upon the hydrology of the region in question. The aim of the research is to provide information which would be useful in the routeing of tunnels, determining methods of excavation, and estimating the duration of the project. /TRRL/
