THE BAR SIMULATION METHOD FOR THE CALCULATION OF SHEAR LAG IN MULTI-CELL AND CONTINUOUS BOX GIRDERS
The paper describes the development of the bar simulation method for the prediction of the shear lag effect in box girders of different cross-sectional types and in continuous box girders. The accuracy of the proposed method is established by comparing the predicted values with results obtained by a finite element solution. Values obtained from the box girder design rules are also included in the comparison and these design values are seen to be generally satisfactory for the girders considered. /Author/TRRL/
