DATABASE FOR FINITE ELEMENT PREDICTION AND PERFORMANCE - APPLICATION TO TUNNELS AND RETAINING STRUCTURES

A database dedicated to the numerical modeling of geotechnical structures as well as to the comparison between finite element method results and in situ measurements has been developed at the Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussees (LCPC), Paris, France. This database, called MOMIS, currently comprises a total of 255 case studies, 84 of which deal with embankments built on soft soils, 109 with underground works and 62 with sheet-piled retaining structures. The generation of MOMIS has relied on a technology watch effort implemented in the field of finite element modeling. Each case study is the result of the analysis of an article, paper, or report. Use of this database has already served both to highlight several modeling principles and to quantify deviations between results given by numerical models and values measured on actual geotechnical structures.
