ELECTRONIC BRIDGE SITE DATA SUBMITTALS
New interactive electronic forms accessible over the Internet and capable of being sent by email are speeding the process by which bridge design teams in the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) submit for review dozens of categories of data for new and reconstructed bridges. Preliminary investigations of aspects such as vertical and horizontal clearance, survey reports, right of way, flood plain levels and others are now sent directly to the Structure Design team. New forms enable submissions to be standardized and include drop-down menus and sub-programs to automatically prompt and correct data before it is entered into the final database. Once a project starts, the data is used to create a spreadsheet that can be used to track progress.
