ESTABLISHING A GEOTECHNICAL INFORMATION SERVICE

A description is given of the setting up of a technical information service, part of the Geotechnical Service Division of the Frankpile Organisation. The library, mainly concerned with geotechnical subjects such as soil mechanics, foundation engineering and geology, also includes sections on cement and concrete, contracts, standards, codes of practice, corrosion, safety and noise control. Details are given of the information services which include a retrieval system, monthly bulletins, a collection of ground investigation reports and exhibitions. Set up initially to meet the information needs of the company it is hoped the service will also be used by consulting engineers, contractors and clients. /TRRL/
