CONSERVING ENERGY AND PRESERVING THE ENVIRONMENT: THE ROLE OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
This report notes that significantly less energy is used and substantially less pollution is generated per person, per mile, when individuals use public transit than when they driver. It describes the current benefits and potential achievable benefits that could be realized if people increased their use of public transportation. It also argues that it is a very achievable goal for Americans to increase their use of public transportation, and thus also attain cleaner air and greater energy savings.
