KVAERNER'S SLEWING RAMP

Kvaerner Brug A/S has developed a new design of stern ramp. The Company has adopted a different approach to that used in the Navire design, the slewing platform now forming part of the hinged structure which is connected to the extreme after part of the ship, thereby avoiding any loss of cargo space. This arrangement means that the ramp can be manoeuvred from straight astern to an angle of up to 47 degrees on either side. It is designed to accommodate very heavy loads (e.g. vehicles two abreast with a total weight of 200 tons). A mammoth version can be supplied which is capable of taking four fully loaded and four empty vehicles making a total load of 400 tons. This particular arrangement enables an exceedingly wide stern door to be fitted and removes the need for manoeuvring space inside the door, since this can now take place on the platform.
