COMMUNITY TRANSPORT IN DERBYSHIRE. 12 YEARS' EXPERIENCE WITH DIAL-A-BUS AND OTHER SERVICES
Details are given of accessible transport Dial-a-Bus services, developed by Derbyshire County Council, aimed at providing mobility for those not able to use ordinary bus services. The County Council now supports some 34 vehicles scheduled to maximise vehicle use and high load factors. The specialist services provide transport for a number of separate contracts, such as for taking children with mobility problems to and from school. Such schemes need to be self-financing by developing contracts with local authorities but keeping within public transport and developing their role in care-in-the-community services.
