ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORT SYSTEMS FOR ELDERLY AND DISABLED PEOPLE IN THIRD WORLD NATIONS
A very wide range of parameters influence the development of accessible transport systems in 'Third World Nations'. They include traditional, cultural, socio economical aspects. Urban, semi urban, rural needs appear to be diverse. The terrains encountered include national and state highways besides roads of all the types. The transportation vehicles utilised range from latest limousines to various types of two wheeler, three wheeler and four wheeler ones besides public and voluntary buses besides the railways and inland water ways and animal drawn vehicles. So planning the A.T.S. for elderly and disabled in these nations is a really formidable challenge requiring need based dynamic innovative approach integrating perhaps 19th, 20th and 21st century attainments.
