MODES AND PERSPECTIVE OF DEVELOPMENT OF ETC SYSTEM FOR CHINA
By analyzing different kinds of toll collection systems in terms of their structures, characteristics, passing capacities and their stations here in China, this paper reviews the possible modes of electronic toll system and their perspectives. The necessary conditions for a non-stop toll system are described. It is suggested that some IC (integrated circuit) cards or untouched IC cards should be used as the passing cards or prepaid cards. A non-stop toll lane with auto barriers should be used to shorten cash exchange and operation time, to increase the capacity of toll stations and prevent corruption. Regional non-stop toll technology is used in very big cities to realize a one-card system and congestion toll collection to control traffic demand. (A*) For the covering abstract see ITRD E110327.
