NLFEARC: LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE CROSSING. IN: FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES
The paper takes a critical look at the state of the art in nonlinear finite element analysis of reinforced concrete structures. The accuracy of such analysis procedures is gauged through examining the results of recent prediction competitions. Identified and discussed are reasons for caution when applying nonlinear analysis methods. The paper presents the results of a test program involving shear critical beams in support of the contention that the behavior of reinforced concrete is still not yet understood. A good challenge for validating current procedures is represented by the tests.
