CANADIAN PACIFIC IN NYC
Canadian Pacific (CP) is currently using trackage rights into New York and hopes to broaden its presence in the U.S. market. When Conrail split into CSX and Norfolk Southern in 1999, territory east of the Hudson River came under the exclusive rights of CSX. In an effort to increase rail competition, the Surface Transportation Board granted Canadian Pacific direct access to New York City markets via CSX's Hudson Line. In addition, New York City's Economic Development Corporation has chosen Canadian Pacific as operator of the 65th Street Yard in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Canadian Pacific plans on broadening its operations at Bay Ridge and elsewhere with the possibility of trans- loading containers and expressway inter-modal service.
