OPERATIONAL ROUTE ANALYSIS
The job of gathering adequate accident analyses is becoming too difficult and time consuming. The ever increasing network of highways means more and more man-hours investigating greater numbers of accidents. The growing mountain of data can threaten the quality of the analyses. This article describes the method selected by the state of Connecticut to analyze accident data. Using a statistical evaluation of accidents by contrasting the pertinent accident rates against the roadway mean, occurrence levels are monitored and critical areas can be identified more easily.
