PREPARATION AND PROPERTIES OF TAR/BITUMEN MIXTURES
Tar/bitumen mixtures were prepared by simple mixing using three types of tar and two grades of bitumen each fluxed to C.42 deg evt with particular fluxing oils. Some mixtures were also prepared by fluxing various pitch/bitumen mixtures to C.42 deg evt. Properties of these mixtures confirm that greater compatibility of tar and bitumen is achieved with decreasing aromaticity of tar, and with mixtures whose bitumen component was prepared from penetration grade bitumen by fluxing with coal tar oils rather than kerosene. Some work on mixtures of coke oven and continuous vertical retort tars with penetration grade bitumen is also reported. /Author/TRRL/
