NEW DIRECTIONS FOR ATC TRAINING: A DISCUSSION
Automated systems are changing the air traffic control system and the nature of the air traffic controller's job. Knowledge requirements of air traffic controllers should be revised to reflect these changes. This paper discusses the need for revision and proposes revised knowledge requirements. These requirements are compared with United States and French practices. Based on findings from the comparison, it is proposed that air traffic control specialist training should be provided by colleges rather than the employing agency.
