RTLM FOR TRACK ASSET MANAGEMENT
This article describes a software package developed for assessing and managing railroad track infrastructure. Railway Track Life-Cycle Model (RTLM), used in track and vehicle component degradation analysis, maintenance planning, and cost analysis, can predict rail wear rate, wheel wear rate, rail defect growth rate, rolling contact fatigue growth, wood tie degradation, turnout degradation, ballast degradation, and track roughness growth. The article describes the structure of the RTLM, how degradation and economics are calculated, and dynamic track segmentation. Model examples and results are given.
