AN OVERVIEW OF FEDERAL AIR QUALITY LEGISLATION AS RELATED TO FEDERALLY-ASSISTED HIGHWAY AND TRANSIT PROGRAMS
This paper provides an overview of the U.S. Federal legislation in air quality as related to Federally assisted highway and transit program development. Covered in the discussion are the pre-1955 era, the Air Pollution Control Act of 1955, the Clean Air Act of 1963, the Clean Air Act of 1970, the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, transportation conformity regulations, the 8-hour ozone and PM2.5 National Ambient Air Quality Standards, and the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program.
