BULKHEAD BONUS AT LAKE MANAPOURI
Adding an underwater tunnel to an existing hydroelectric plant on New Zealand's South Island while minimizing the amount of time the plant was shut down led the contractor to improvise the use of a steel bulkhead to keep the junction between the existing structure and the new one dry while they were joined. The article includes cutaways of the two components and details of how the project was implemented, including dry runs for divers to learn how to set the bulkheads in place before the power was shut down.
