DYNAMIC FIELD TEST OF A FLEXIBLE SIMPLE SPAN BRIDGE
Bridge engineering has shown considerable interest in the dynamic response of both simple span and continuous span bridges for a number of years. This paper discusses a study initiated by the Virginia Transportation Research Council to investigate, both experimentally and analytically, the dynamic response of a recently constructed bridge to heavy vehicular traffic. The results of the study are described, including the instrumentation, data analysis and conclusions of the field investigation, and the finite element model of the bridge and predicted analytical results.
