ON-STREET PRIORITY TRANSITWAYS IMPROVE URBAN MOBILITY
Adding dedicated transit space to existing rights-of-way can improve service, but only if the layout and use of scarce space is politically acceptable and practical. Areas in the immediate neighborhood of at- grade stations deserve special attention; also important is integrating the on-street transitway with existing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, as well as parking. The article cites examples of on-street transit systems in the U.S. and overseas.
