This report deals with the state of present documentary evidence concerning the potential impact on the transport sector and its energy consumption of telecommunications and similar technologies. The main focus has been an analysis of the interchangeability of physical transportation and various types of telecommunications. The report also includes documentation of the indirect effect of telecommunications on transport needs, as well as studies of the significance of teletechnology for the future efficiency of transport production. /TRRL/
