THE "LR 90" FROST HEAVE TEST--INTERIM SPECIFICATION FOR USE WITH GRANULAR MATERIALS

The TRRL Frost Heave Test described in LR90 is nominated in the Department of Transport Specification for Road and Bridge Works as the test to establish the degree of frost-susceptibility of unbound sub-base and base materials. The description given in LR90 does not contain sufficient detail for the test to be carried out in a standardised manner with granular materials. This Report therefore contains an explanation of the basis of the test procedure and a detailed specification for carrying it out. /Author/
