USE OF A CONTEST TO INCREASE INTEREST AND SHARE NEW IDEAS ON LOCAL ROADWAY MAINTENANCE
This paper describes a program being used in several western states in the U.S. to increase interest in finding innovative methods of maintaining local roadways. The program is a contest between all local road agencies in these states and is supported by the technology transfer centers in each state and the U.S. Federal Highway Administration. The aim is to gather the best ideas from the states participating and share that information with other local road agencies. It also rewards those individuals that have developed innovative ideas to maintain their local roadways in a more efficient and safe manner.
