CO-OPERATION IN TRAFFIC AND ITS IN SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND AND BRISBANE

Queensland is unique in Australia in the scope and responsibility of local governments. Many of these have had long histories in managing significant road networks, in various degrees of partnership with Queensland Main Roads. The widespread advent of intelligent transport systems and increasing community expectations are driving factors in increasing organisational co-operation. The paper describes the context in South East Queensland and Brisbane, and the policy approach to maximize road user benefits. It describes the drivers for co-operation, and recent successes in co-operation. It concludes by outlining future options for co-operation in systems, data and information and road transport management. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no.
