GPS SATELLITE-ASSISTED TRACK SURVEYING ON GERMAN RAIL
Approximately 8,000 km of track are scheduled for maintenance on German Rail (DB AG), and 1,100 km for track rehabilitation. Extensive and costly surveying work is required to enable the exact positioning of track maintenance machines on the track and to determine the track correction values. The article examines how using the Plasser & Theurer EM-SAT track survey car, together with GPS satellite positioning, obviates the need for fixed points. The fixed points are identified by a marking on the inner side of the rail web.
