GEAR DESIGN AND LABORATORY TEST EXPERIENCE. MARINE GAS TURBINE PROPULSION
A study of marine reduction gear design over the past 15 yr and an indication of future development of marine propulsion gearing for gas turbine plants are presented. Emphasis is placed on those design considerations that relate to gas turbine installations-gearing arrangement, reversing mechanisms, and use and location of clutches and brakes. Comparison tabulations include weight analyses and gear rating influencing factors. Also included is a study of the marine gear-rating method and adaptation to gas turbine operating characteristics with service factor chart for river craft, merchant and naval ships.
