ANALYSIS OF A LARGE DATABASE OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BRIDGE INSPECTION RECORDS

This paper describes the use of a large database of reinforced concrete bridge inspection records. To determine what data is useful, an extensive analysis is undertaken. The analysis shows that the age and associated exposure conditions produce fundamentally deleterious effects on reinforced concrete structures. It shows how the structure type and member type influence the rate of degradation. Subsequently, a spreadsheet template was developed to present the analysis results. The service life of the bridges can be classified according to five defect phases, namely defect free, minor cracking, major cracking, spalling and failure. The likelihood of a structure or member having deteriorated to one of these defect phases is presented in the spreadsheet. For the covering abstract see ITRD E119166.
