BEWARE OF WATER SENSITIVITY OF BASE COURSE UNDER POROUS ASPHALT SURFACE
Porous asphalt has been widely used on Japanese highways as a standard surface course since 1998, greatly contributing to the decrease in the number of traffic accidents wet weather, and to noise reduction. However, due to rainwater penetration through the porous surface, water sensitivity of the base course layer becomes very important to its durability. Therefore, the Japan Highway Public Corporation (JH) takes countermeasures such as successfully introducing porous asphalt on the highways. This paper describes several different countermeasures including the selection of aggregates and the base course mix. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no.
