SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF THE DEMAND FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN VILNIUS
This paper presents a social and economic analysis of the demand for public transportation in Vilnius, Lithuania. The paper first gives an overview of the passenger market for public services and its potential. It then offers an analysis of the demand for public transportation services in Vilnius as well as the needs of the city's residents. The paper concludes with three primary recommendations for developing the pubic transportation system: 1) raising the quality of public transportation that is provided on fixed routes; 2) revising and updating the fare system; and, 3) integrating the suburban public transportation system into the central city transportation system.
