MARINE APPLICATIONS WITH APPROVED REGULATORY AGENCIES

This paper is intended to provide a general understanding of the technical and regulator requirements of the alternator portion of the generator set. The rules governing diesel engines for shipboard use could be the subject of a separate paper. There is no discussion regarding switchboards or distribution systems. This dicussion specifically addresses the rules covering alternator, automatic voltage regulator and regulator accessory equipment. Specific emphasis on A.B.S. (American Bureau of Ships) alternator requirements for shipboard gen-set application. Discussion of design, inspection, testing and certificate requirements. Also brief review of other marine regulatory agencies for other countries.
