MOTORWAY, TRUNK ROAD DEVELOPMENT, AND THE FARMER

The report discusses the problems of land severance, for new motorway or road construction purposes, of a farming community. While not intended to take the place of legal expertise, the report attempts to cover the various stages of planning and construction of new roads, how farms may be affected, and what can be done to minimise possible adverse effects. The notes are said to be based on the practical experience of farmers faced with the disruption of farm business for road construction works. Information is presented under the following headings: role of the NFU; how new roads are planned - a stage by stage account; planning and design; the public inquiry; the Secretary of State's decision or deferral; land acquisition; and, construction of the road. /TRRL/
