DB LAUNCHES NEW LOCOMOTIVE STRATEGY
German Rail (DB) was created 10 years ago, in January 1994 out of the former German Federal Railway and German State Railway. The new company was set up as a public limited company with an aim to turn the railway into a profitable business. This article reviews what has happened in DB's first ten years. The strategic plan calls for a three-step plan that: includes lowering the age of the fleet; reduces the number of different classes; and modernizes the existing fleet to adapt it to the current conditions.
