THE GREENER OPTION
Local authorities in the UK are increasing the use of recycled material, especially aggregates, in construction projects. Developments in the recycling of asphalt means that road planings can be removed and processed back into asphalt. WRAP (the Waste and Resources Action Programme) has created a sustainable aggregates information service called AggRegain. The AggRegain website provides help on how sustainable aggregates can be sourced and used in a wide range of construction projects. A helpline where potential sellers and users of recycled and secondary aggregates can get advice is also available. The service will support local authorities wishing to follow sustainable development policies in line with Local Agenda 21.
