SOME REMARKS ON PROBABILISTIC ROUTE CHOICE MODELS

This paper which gives a mathematical presentation from which existing methods can be derived, focuses especially upon some operational aspects such as computer algorithms and parameter estimating process. The assumptions for the models are stated and the various aspects of operational models are discussed. The definition and evaluation of routes, the structure of the model, and the simulation of route choice are detailed. Extensions and applications are outlined. These include the study of the effects of typical traffic management measures, and the estimation of generalized cost function to be used in an assignment model. Calibration of the model and alternations in network treatment are also discussed.
