THE IMPACT OF RETAIL PROJECTS IN DEVELOPED URBAN AREAS
There are several relatively old and well established cities in the hear of Miami-Dade County, Florida. Their location makes them particularly attractive for stopover trips by motorists traversing the area on their way to other destinations. These urban locations, therefore, are advantageous for retail projects because they result in relatively small impacts on the transportation system. Surveys of retail areas in similar locations were done to obtain local data supporting this statement. The surveys did confirm that new trips were only 25 to 40 percent of all the trips arriving at such retail locations.
