ENERGY EXPENDITURE OF CYCLING, WALKING AND RUNNING

The caloric expenditure of man while cycling, walking and running at different speeds can now be predicted with reasonable accuracy. Data and formulae are presented. Questions such as the following are answered: for the expenditure of a certain number of calories is it more efficient to walk, run or cycle, and what is the optimum speed? Should cycling, walking or running be used in order to cover a certain distance daily and what is the optimum speed? /TRRL/
