THE EFFECTS OF ACCESSIBILITY ON LAND USE; AN ALTERNATIVE NOTATION FOR HAMERSLAGS MODEL
BEREIKBAARHEID ALS VESTIGINGSFACTOR; EEN ALTERNATIEVE NOTATIE VOOR HAMERSLAG'S MODEL
This paper deals with an alternative notation of Hamerslags' model defining the interaction between spatial developments, traffic- planning and transport demand. This alternative notation tries to simplify the interpretation of the original model and all its factors. A key to this interpretation of the model is the use of the balancing factors in the distribution model as an instrument to measure the accessibility. The land-use-model starts from the principle that the accessibility influences to a greater or lesser extent decisions concerning several activities and consequently also the land use. With the help of this interpretation of the factors used in the model the results of the simulated examples by Hamerslag can be explained. In this way it is possible to imagine the role of accessibility in the pattern of settlements. A further development and calibration of this interpretation of the model may contribute to quantified insight into the interaction between spatial development and the transportation-system. /TRRL/
