FLEXURAL PERFORMANCE OF CONCRETE BEAMS REINFORCED WITH FRP GRIDS

The aim of this research was to investigate the compatibility of using traditional steel-reinforced concrete analytical procedures for predicting flexural strength, shear strength, and deflection behavior of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP)-reinforced concrete beams. American Concrete Institute 318-95 was employed for quantification of nominal flexural and shear strengths, and load-deflection behavior. A bilinear concrete stress block was also used to model service reinforcement stress and deflection. The load-deflection and failure results of 15 simply supported concrete beams subjected to 4-point monotonic loading and reinforced with a 2D-FRP grid are presented in detail. Test results are compared with analytical predictions at service- and ultimate-load conditions. Conclusions regarding analytic compatibility and FRP flexural design protocol are established.
