NEW BUILDING METHODS USED FOR STEEL PLATFORMS
The first of four steel gravity platforms, a unique approach to offshore structure design, was under tow in March to its location in the Loango field offshore Congo. It is the first of three drilling platforms and one production platform of this design to be installed in the field. The platforms, under construction for the Agip Recherches Congo, SA field offshore Point Noire, involve a new design, some construction innovations, and a variety of contractor firms. Components, floating assembly and installation of the platforms are described.
