OFFSHORE BRAZIL DUE CONCRETE PLATFORMS
Advanced offshore technology has come to the rescue of Brazil to expedite the development of an attractive oil field. Three concrete drilling-and-production platforms, designed in France and presently being built in Aracaju, Bahia, mark the first use of this type of gravity structure in the Western Hemisphere. The box-shaped, legless platforms will be used to drill and produce the Ubarana field, located in shallow water, 10 miles off the coast of Rio Grande do Norte. Design, construction, testing, installation as well as advantages of these platforms are discussed.
