This publication describes the state of the art of the surveillance of road network conditions. The concept of large-scale systematic control is outlined in chapter 1: reasons for the surveillance type of data to be collected, and means of obtaining these data. The two main categories of non-destructive tests in use are examined together with the equipment utilized to carry out the controls : gerpho, photographic devices, SCRIM, and an apparatus for the continuous measurement of adhesion. /TRRL/
