SEISMIC RESPONSE OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BRIDGE PIER WALLS IN THE WEAK DIRECTION
Representative bridge pier walls that can be found throughout the United States were the focus of an experimental study on the evaluation of out of plane seismic behavior. Seven pier wall specimens were tested and failure was due to either compression of concrete or fracture of vertical reinforcing bars. A model to determine the seismic response of bridge pier walls was developed and calibrated and demonstrated agreement with the experimental results.
